Edgar Degas, the great impressionist artist, created many sculptures, but only one was actually cast during his lifetime. This, his most famous work, is called “The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen”. This sculpture provided the inspiration for this year’s presentation by the Patriots White Guard.

Conception, design, and instruction are by Alicia Re, Director and choreographer, and Kaitlyn Gray and Christine Hammerl, instructing equipment work. Staging assistance was provided by Dick Hoppe.

The “Middle” of the Patriots three guards, the White guard consists of 6th through 9th grade students from several school districts, two thirds of whom have never performed in winter guard previous to this season. Besides being a competitor in it’s own right, the guard serves as a training program for both the Patriots Red Guard and the Gates Chili program. The guard is sponsored by the Patriots Drum Corps.

Please try to visualize the inspiration given by Degas and the Little Dancer as the guard interprets it through dance and movement.
